Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. As I'm sure you have experienced, this year is off to an atypical start. Your child's speech/language pathologist has been working hard to try to schedule therapy sessions to work around all of their online learning.
You probably had a phone call from your child's SLP or special education teacher, notifying you about how virtual school and special education would look for your student. They discussed how virtual school, therapy and special education would look different than in person. What you can expect from the speech and language department is the following...
Parents are always sooo important in their child's progress and success during speech and language therapy. Now during virtual school, the SLP's will rely on your assistance even more. The assignments that will be posted are meant to be enrichment activities which will continue to improve their speech and language skills increasing their success towards their IEP goals. Please complete the activities/assignments that are provided to your student and this assignment will be the discussed at the beginning of the next therapy session. Your child's CANVAS platform should have a few "courses" listed. One course should be their speech/language class...possibly labeled "Mrs. ______'s Speech Class" or something similar. Within this class you should find a zoom link to their speech class - only to be clicked on when it's their time for speech. Also, there should be an assignment posted in the "assignments" tab. Several of the classroom teachers have said they will also post a link to the speech class zoom on the regular classroom teacher's home page. But if there is not a link in their class, you can always click out of the class and click on the speech teacher's class to find the link. Please bare with us during these first few weeks as we try to navigate through this virtual unknown. But do know, we are trying to get things ironed out as soon as we can. In the meantime, you can always check this website for additional resources or activities. They will be posted under the Virtual Speech/Language therapy tab along the top. Please email or call your child's therapist anytime. We have been asked by the district to limit calls to parents as to not overwhelm anyone - BUT - YOU CAN CONTACT US ANYTIME!!
